How do I get the lid off of my Dutch oven when its Hot?
When cooking with an outdoor Dutch oven,
you may need to check on your dinner to make sure it is cooking evenly. Taking a heavy lid off a Dutch oven can get cumbersome, especially when it is hot. If you are not careful you could tip embers from the charcoal that is sitting on top of your oven into your food, if you don’t get a good grip on it with a glove, it can slip out of your hand, and end up on the ground and get all dirty.
But if you are new to outdoor cooking with your Dutch oven and are slowly obtaining the equipment, a hammer claw works to lift off the lid of your Dutch oven. But be careful, if you dont get the right angle to lift off the lid, soot and embers may end up in your food.
Fortunately, there are Dutch oven lid lifters to help with this problem.
There are many Dutch oven lid lifters but I have found that the best Dutch oven lid lifter, is the Camp Dutch Oven Lid Lifter. It is about 15 inches long, made from heavy duty steel, has a nice black finish and it will fit in a dutch oven bag along with your dutch oven. The “T” bar helps with better grip for lifting the lid of your Dutch oven. You can also lift the whole Dutch oven by the loop handle with the lid lifter.
They are faily inexpensive, and can purchase at many retailers.
No matter which Dutch oven lid lifter tool you end up getting, it will be well worth it.
